TRAINING
Regular training this week. The post goes up at 7.30pm on Monday (e.g. today). Please make sure you sign up as soon as you know if you'll be coming along so that the coaches know how many to expect!
Key dates:
23rd November - Keeper training with Chloe!
7th December - New goals session, Filming with 'This Girl Can'
14th December - Keeper training with Chloe!
DO YOU WANT TO BE A REF OR COACH?
The context: In the last 4 years there has been a massive increase in the provision of football clubs and leagues for women and non-binary players across London. These spaces often have significant LGBTQ+ players, but as they are relatively new spaces, we tend to see that the coaches and referees are predominantly cis, straight, white men who have transitioned from the men's game. For players that are newer to the game, having a coach or referee that you identify with can be a major factor in feeling included. If you feel represented in the main leaders of a space, you're more likely to join in. A solution:
We have successfully applied for a grant to help develop more LGBTQ+ women and non-binary coaches and referees. This includes qualification costs, paid opportunities while you learn and other relevant training. This can include those that are already qualified but want to progress in these areas. Could this be you? If you are LGBTQ+ and are interested in this, please get in touch with Gaia (membership@goaldiggersfootballclub.com). Please also share this with anyone you know who may be interested - it's open to anyone.
40+ GOALDEN GOALS TEAM
Please join the 'Goalden Goals' access group on TeamApp to have access to our 40+ games. The first one is Monday 21st November 8-9pm 5-aside against Vintage Laces. We're finalising a December fixture with East London Ladies Senior Team and a January game against Crawley Old Girls. All these teams have a similar all-ability ethos as GDFC.
To add yourself to the access group, go to the app, click the gear item in the top right hand corner, scroll down to access groups', click on 'Goalden Goals' and you're in.
Any questions, ask Gaia!
P.s. applications still open to join our committee as All Ages Officer. If you like the sound of the role, let Club Sec Martha know on info@goaldiggersfootballclub.com.
OUT FOR SPORT AWARDS
Very excitingly we have had two members of the club nominated for Out for Sport awards!
Fleur has been nominated for a Lifetime Achievement Award and Paula as an Unsung Hero Award.
We'd love for them to have some support at the ceremony so please buy a ticket (£7.06) if you can and join them this Friday in Kings Cross! Drinks are included and it's a great opportunity to meet other LGBTQ+ sport clubs. Buy a ticket here.
COMMUNITY CORNER
This section is reserved for anyone in the club who has stuff they want to share (job posting, events, other cool opportunities -- whatever!) If you ever want to add anything to this section just email press@goaldiggersfootballclub.com and put 'NEWSLETTER' in the subject line.
COME TO LORRAINE'S GIG -- 18TH OF NOVEMBER
Our very own Lorraine has invited us to her gig this Friday -- what a treat!
PLAYER SHOUT-OUTS
WEDNESDAY TRAINING
Genuinely too many players of the week at training to name! Thank you so much to our 6 coaches!
TUESDAY 7S
This was from last week's close game against the top of the league, unbeaten, Black Panthers. We kept a gorgeous 0-0 first half and the football was FLOWING. Unfortunately we then lost 3-0 but we play for the love of the game so we won anyway!? Potm was the absolute pacy, hard-working legend that is Emily! Fleur and Captain Fleur's potm was Cara.
Another Tuesday game potm! This was actually from captain Emily but she forgot to take the photo so Gaia awarded it instead. Wow Emma what can we say? You love Tuesdays and it clearly loves you! Todo were good but you were strong, composed and didn't stop battling. Congrats!!
SUNDAY KICK AROUND
A bloody lovely sunny time was had in Haggerston. Everyone played so well and the vibes were 100. Each team came away with equal points in our mini tournament with the Red team winning on goal difference. Our three keeper captains chose the players of the week: Dan, Scarlet & River! Well done all!
